Pather Panchali

When: Sun., Aug. 30 2015
With music from Ravi Shankar and a screenplay by Satyajit Ray, Pather Panchali is one of Indian director Satyajit Ray's most notable works. A simple yet poignant story of a young boy, the film represents the first part of a famous trilogy chronicling the boy's life. Filmed in 1955, the movie shows the immense poverty that’s spread across India. It also depicts the optimism that still lies within the impoverished. Showgoers can expect to leave appreciating the simple things as the film offers a brief escape from first-world problems. The movie shows at 1:30 p.m. today at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. Tickets are $9. (Brittany Rees)
