Plau Us a Song, Piano Man

Lang Lang lives up to his name.

Play Us a Song, Piano Man Lang Lang lives up to his name. Lang Lang's parents nailed it when they named him 23 years ago. In Chinese, his unique handle means "brilliant man," and today, Lang is among the world's most luminous classical pianists. As evidence, consider the fact that he's giving a solo recital at Severance Hall tonight. What's more, he got to this point far faster than most. A former child prodigy from Beijing, Lang began taking over the Western musical hemisphere as a pro in 1999, when he replaced an older and more established pianist at the last minute to perform a major work with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Tonight, he'll perform Mozart's C-Major Piano Sonata K. 330, Franz Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, and Schumann's "Scenes From Childhood."
