Politics of Punk Staff Pick

When: Fri., Feb. 24 2017
David Ensminger, prolific punk historian and author, takes the podium tonight at 7 at Mac’s Backs on Coventry to discuss recent protests, current events, and punk’s role in it all. Ensminger is the author of The Politics of Punk: Protest and Revolt from the Streets (2016), a people’s history of the expansive and ongoing activism and outreach of the genre beyond just slogans and lyrics. His research features original interviews with seminal groups of the American punk scene, from the Dead Kennedys to Cleveland’s own Dead Boys. Ensminger’s deep, nuanced understanding of punk’s long history of dissent, disruption, and counter-cultural activities is reanimated in the context of current manifestations of political protest and resistance. Admission is free. (Lawrence Neil)
