Porn in the U.K.

From the land of Benny Hill, a sex comedy.

A mail-order gaffe leads to an onslaught of porn in No Sex Please, We’re British, now playing at the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre.

In the 1971 stage comedy, a newlywed couple moves into an apartment above the bank where hubby Peter works. To help furnish the flat, wife Frances purchases some glassware from a mail-order catalog. Little does she know that the company is a front for a porno business. The couple is soon flooded with XXX flicks and magazines. Making matters worse, Peter’s mother, his boss, and a crew of housing inspectors make a surprise visit -- just as the porn starts pouring in.

The comedy debuted in London to rave reviews; a 1973 movie version was less successful. “This bedroom farce is better suited to the theater than the big screen,” sniffed one reviewer. Here’s your chance to see it where it belongs.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Jan. 27. Continues through Feb. 3
