Quadrophonic Desperation

Quadrophonic Desperation (

Quadrophonic Desperation's self-titled debut only feels like a triple album. The Cleveland rockers keep the jamming dialed to two throughout most of this long, plain trip, but they raise it as high as four on "My Name Is Jim," a gruff white-blues tune. The last half-hour of the 40-minute CD sounds like one extra-long, mushrooming guitar solo. But the album starts promisingly. "Electric Goo Goo" expands from arabesque Middle Eastern guitar lines to a rolling boulder of a solo, while the mercifully brief "Amsus" is the record's stone-sober highlight. Its stately classic-rock guitar and deadpan cosmic vocals round out Quadrophonic Desperation's psychedelic undertones.
