Raise a Glass

Celebrate the holidays with locally made wine.

This weekend’s holiday-themed Tannenbaum Trail event is all about turning wine novices into aficionados. The self-guided tour stops at a number local wineries located within close proximity to one another. “So there’s instant success in becoming an expert,” says Donniella Winchell, executive director of the Ohio Wine Producers Association. @cal body 1:Participants start at any of 16 wineries in Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties -- including Buccia Vineyards in Conneaut, Geneva-on-the-Lake’s Lakehouse Inn Winery, and Laleure Vineyards in Parkman. They then drive to each stop on the trail, partaking in wine samples and appetizers. Many of the wines (like the popular Holiday Blush) get in the spirit of the season.

There are also plenty of seasonal gifts available for purchase at each stop -- from handmade ornaments to bottles of vino. “With all of the early-bird sales, people are done shopping by 1 p.m.,” says Winchell. “They’ll then want to relax and head over to our trails.”
