One of the weirdest bands of the past 20 years (in the best sense of the word), Rasputina is underground cello-driven rock ‘n’ roll straight outta the Victorian era. Melora Creager has crafted an alternate vision of Western history with her band, one that foreshadowed the Steampunk “movement” and encouraged a fanbase of anachronistic bookworms and crafters. Take tunes like “1816, The Year Without a Summer,” in which Creager spins a yarn about the various theories that floated around the Occident about that early 19th-century weather anomaly: Who else would dare write that kind of stuff? Each time the band has come to Cleveland, they’ve dropped immense shows that corral far-reaching corners of their catalog. The fans in this town are fervent, so the shows tend to kick ass. We’d wager tonight will follow that trend. (Eric Sandy)
