Reason to Believe

A new metal band ushers in its first album at Peabody's

When Jason Dean finished his military service and moved to Cleveland in 2008, he immediately turned to Craigslist to see if any metal bands were looking for a lead screamer. He got lucky with his very first call to Ruled by Reason. "I tried out for them once and they said, 'You're it,'" recalls Dean. The band quickly evolved into a finely tuned metal machine and shopped its three-song demo to several record labels, including Italy's Execution Kollective, which took the bait. Last week, Execution released the band's debut, The Dawning of Dystopia.

Recorded locally at Brainchild studios, the brutally heavy album is distinguished by Brian Montgomery and Matt Tarach's intricate guitar interplay.

Ruled by Reason has plans for a short summer tour in support of the album. The band will host a CD-release party at 7 p.m. Saturday at Peabody's. Solipsist, Fallen Captive, Taken by Talons, Along Came a Spider, and Brigmah open. Tickets are $6, but you can get a free ticket at peabodys.com.
