Respighi's Pines of Rome

When: Thu., Oct. 6 2016
The three tone poems that make up Respighi’s famous Roman Trilogy bring the city of Rome to vivid life. You can hear the Cleveland Orchestra play them tonight at a concert that opens with Beethoven’s often overlooked Eighth Symphony. Franz Welser-Möst conducts. The concert begins at 7:30 at Severance Hall, where performances continue through Sunday. A pre-concert talk, “Making Masterpieces with Metronomes, Trees, and Record No. 1605” with guest speaker Timothy Cutler, professor of music theory at the Cleveland Institute of Music, takes place an hour before each concert. Tickets start at $49. (Niesel)
