Retribution Gospel Choir/Relaxer/Gomez Addams

When: Fri., Feb. 15, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $8
Maintaining a detached ’90s mentality via an edgy approach to emotional overload, Retribution Gospel Choir has paved an interesting history. Over the years, the band has capably unleashed many of the demons lurking in Duluth-born indie shufflers Low. Midway through the band’s second album, aptly titled 2, “Poor Man’s Daughter” roars out of the murky waters of feedback loops into a sky red with fire and scorn. Frontman Alan Sparhawk has proven that he’s not foolin’ around with RGC. Dig the latest album, the surprisingly titled 3. It’s a two-song affair with dual 20-minute shredfests. From the sludgiest depths of Sparhawk’s shoegaze inclinations, this album takes its time before infecting any and all listeners within earshot. If you fiend for the downtrodden vibes of Low, but you still like the patently late-night buzz of cocaine and malted milk balls, check out the show tonight. (Eric Sandy)
