Rob Delaney Stand Up

When: Sat., June 16, 7 p.m. 2012
Phone: 216-321-5588
Price: $17
Rob Delaney has a Twitter, and he knows how to use it. The comedian has just shy of a half-million followers and even a few parody profiles. (You know you’ve made it big when @NotRobDelaney uses a close-up of your crotch as a profile picture.) All joking aside, Delaney’s large online presence has helped him promote his current comedy tour, which stops at the Grog Shop tonight at 8. For instance, he recently tweeted, “#Cleveland: Sorry those anarchists tried to bomb you. But cheer up – I’m coming June 16!” And what if the anarchists had won? “I would have helped dig people out of the rubble. Then, I would have fashioned an amphitheater out of the rubble and healed people with laughter,” he tells us. Delaney comes by his comic chops un-naturally. He originally began his career as a musical theater major, but turned to comedy after a serious car accident. “I was just happy I survived and wanted to make people laugh. I didn’t want to do serious things anymore.” He occasionally does return to his first love, though — at least long enough to sing the national anthem. His pipes have opened games for the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. “I love baseball. I love this great country of ours,” Delaney admits. “I’ll sing it anywhere.” Cleveland’s own Mike Polk gets the fun started. Tickets are $15 online and $17 at the door, which opens at 7 p.m.
