Cleveland rock expatriate Robert Cherry (pictured) returns home, late for the holidays — but he's a new dad now, and parents are always running late, so you've got to bear with him. The singer-songwriter plans to play a set heavy on new material with optimistic working titles, including "Don't Let Me Mess Up My New Life." As you may have surmised from the name, the fresh tunes are just a tad melancholy, but not too much so. Cherry says the new numbers are "some of my catchiest and most optimistic material yet. That said, there's still a shadow running through it, like most of my albums." He's about to demo the new material with Craig Ramsey, who'll open the show with a set of sublime pop from duo Bears. If you miss the set, catch Cherry on 92.3-FM K-Rock's Inner Sanctum, Sunday at 10 p.m.
