Runts' House

Young artists take center stage in new exhibit.

It's no accident the Asterisk Gallery resembles an elementary-school art room today. "I want the walls plastered, totally covered with artwork," says artist Russ Seligman, the man behind Seeds of the Future, a kids' art show that opens in Tremont this weekend. "It's not your typical one-level show, where you have a canvas, then wall space, then a canvas, with all this white space around. I want to hang the art from a kid's perspective. Their imagination is much more brilliant than ours, for sure."Seligman hopes the exhibit will inspire parents and teachers to take a second look at children's artwork on refrigerator doors and office corkboards. "I was inspired by a lot of close friends who have children who are really creative," he says. "One of my ultimate goals for this show is for the kids to have this experience in their memory, and that it becomes a positive event that can inspire them to share their accomplishments." See the Seeds of the Future between 1 and 6 p.m. today and by appointment on Fridays and Saturdays through November 24 at Asterisk Gallery, 2393 Professor Avenue in Tremont. Admission is free.
