Say Uncle

Windy City comic gives up on library computers.

"Uncle Lar" Reeb tries to steer clear of the internet. If you ask him about usernames and passwords, he's hopelessly lost. But he's figured out how to access X-rated sites. "I was watching porn on the internet until they kicked me out of the library," says Reeb, who's in town this week for six shows at the Improv. "Tip from Uncle Lar: Don't take your pants off in the library."The Chicago-based comic has been unleashing off-color jokes since 1979, when he worked at an amusement park during the day. Because Reeb was older than his co-workers, they started to call him "Uncle." He's been doling out advice ever since. "I read where Wal-Mart won't prosecute first-time shoplifters if it's under 25 bucks," says Reeb, who logs up to 47 weeks of performances each year. "So I say we all go to Wal-Mart tomorrow and get a free gift."Reeb patterns his style after two of his favorite comedians from the '60s and '70s: Rodney Dangerfield (for his one-liners) and George Carlin (for his renegade sense of humor). "It's a combination of the two," says Reeb. "But I'm more twisted and sicker than that." Reeb performs at the Improv, 2000 Sycamore Avenue on the West Bank of the Flats. Showtimes are 8 tonight, 8 and 10:15 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday, and 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 to $16. Call 216-696-4677 or visit
