The late great Nigerian multi-instrumentalist Fela Kuti is famous for having introduced Afrobeat music to the world. After an incredible career, he passed away in 1997. His legacy lives on, however, and a documentary about his life recently premiered at Sundance. His son Seun also carries on his father’s legacy. His new album, A Long Way to the Beginning, features plenty of great dance tunes and seamlessly throws some hip-hop into the mix on songs such as “African Smoke” and “Black Woman.” With his father’s band backing him, Seun can faithfully revisit songs from Fela’s extensive catalog.
