Sex Education

Writing workshop revels in the naughty bits.

Erin O'Brien will talk dirty tonight when she lectures on "Writing About Sex" at the Poets' and Writers' League Literary Center. "I'm not afraid or embarrassed to talk about it, because it's an intrinsic part of the human condition," says O'Brien, sister of late Leaving Las Vegas author John O'Brien. "I think the most graphic stories, if handled appropriately, are not offensive." One of O'Brien's tricks is to strategically place a pornographic line in the middle of a story written in a witty "Erma Bombeck voice," she says. "You drop this bomb, and it changes the flavor of the story totally. It's the red dot in the middle of a huge, white abstract painting."
