She'll Be Home for Christmas

Judd daughter goes classic for holiday show.

As much as Wynonna Judd comes across as a brassy country-music mama, the 43-year-old "Rockin' With the Rhythm" songbird will have a soft spot for holiday music during tonight's A Classic Christmas concert at Playhouse Square. The set list includes tracks off the debut Christmas CD that Judd recorded last year, with festive faves like "Winter Wonderland," "I'll Be Home for Christmas," and "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town." She also plays traditionalist with a rendition of "Ave Maria" sung in Latin. "I just really resonate to the old-fashioned. There's a part of me that longs for a time — a very romantic time — when Dean Martin and Ol' Blue Eyes made records the right way," says Judd. "I wanted my grandmother to say, 'That's really good,' instead of 'She should stick to country.'" Judd performs at 7 tonight at the State Theatre, 1519 Euclid Avenue. Tickets are $10 to $57.
