Regarded as the best musical of all time, Singin’ in the Rain dramatizes the transition from silent movies to talkies in the 1920s. Gene Kelly plays silent film star Don Lockwood and Jean Hagen plays his onscreen love Lina Lamont. Don has the idea to begin making a talkie but no one agrees with him until the success of another talkie suggests he might be onto something. While on his way to his movie premier after party, Don meets Kathy Seldon (Debbie Reynolds), and he falls in love with her immediately. She becomes part of the movie production. The comedic musical screens today at 1:30 p.m. at the Cleveland Museum of Art as part of the Gene Kelley film festival. Tickets are $9. (Lisa Hammond)
