On the third season of The Bachelor, Cleveland native Jen Schefft hooked up with Andrew Firestone and moved to San Francisco with him. A couple months later, she left alone. Then she returned to reality television as The Bachelorette, where she once again rejected a nationally approved mate. Still solo, Schefft recently wrote Better Single Than Sorry, a reassuring hug for women who “start to panic when they turn 30 and settle for the wrong person,” she says. The book runs down a list of why it’s OK to be single, even as friends and family insist they have a perfect match for you. “I love being independent and being able to do things on my own,” says Schefft, who turned 30 last year. “There’s nothing wrong with me because I’m not with a man.”
