Sophie Hannah somehow struck a nerve with her psychological thriller series that revolves around married police officers Charlotte “Charlie” Zailer and Simon Waterhouse. Kind of Cruel is her seventh novel to feature the duo. The main murder suspect in the novel is a woman who inadvertently says something during hypnotherapy that links her to the crime. As a side note, Hannah herself actually underwent hypnotherapy while prepping for the book. She’ll undoubtedly discuss that experience tonight when she reads from the book at 7 p.m. at Barnes & Noble — Woodmere. Admission is free. (Jeff Niesel)
