Splendor of Venice

When: Thu., Oct. 15 2015
Large-scale orchestral concerts were popular years ago in Italy where where aristocrats employed large numbers of the finest musicians of Europe. “Splendor of Venice: An Orchestral Extravaganza,” the program that kicks off the 24th season for the local baroque act Apollo’s Fire, includes two of the “Concerti per molti strumenti” (Concertos for many instruments) that were popular at the time. The program includes one piece by Antonio Vivaldi and another by the Italian composer Evaristo dall’Abaco. Each “Splendor of Venice” concert will be followed by an Afterglow with a cash bar serving prosecco or sparkling cider and cannoli. There will also be live accordion music. A pre-concert talk takes place one one hour before the concerts. The speaker for the “Splendor of Venice” talks is bassoonist Marc Vallon. Tonight’s performance takes place at 7:30 at Fairlawn Lutheran Church. Performances in Cleveland neighborhoods continue through Sunday. Consult the website for times and venues. Tickets are $20 to $68. (Niesel) apollosfire.org.
