Spooky Stuff

When: Fri., March 27 2015
The Babadook, which shows tonight at 7:30 and tomorrow night at 9:20 as part of the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque’s Cleveland Cult Film Festival, was, without much contention, the best and most unique horror film of 2014. It’s both low-budget and appropriately low-fi, relying on the abundant gifts of its stars (Essie Davis and young Noah Wiseman) to convey the intimate horror of a demon invasion, one that is seemingly both supernatural and psychological, one that a mother’s own grief (plus the suppression of that grief and the consequent tension with her son) has created and/or magnified. Tickets are $9. (Sam Allard)
