St. Pat’s Celebration Featuring John Whelan and Low Lily

Irish accordion champion John Whelan will team up with the roots-rock band Low Lily for a special St. Patrick's Day celebration at 8 tonight at the G.A.R. Hall in Peninsula. By the age of 14, Whelan had already won numerous accordion championships and released his first album, Pride of Wexford. Named in honor of his father, Pride of Wexford left a lasting impression. Since that debut album, Whelan has recorded six more albums, and has been featured on numerous compilations. Expect to hear jigs and reels alongside lushly arranged songs that feature fiddle, accordion, guitars, mandolin, double bass and vocal harmonies. Low Lily guitarist Flynn Cohen is a Cleveland native. Tickets cost $20 advance, or $25 at the door. (Niesel)
