Somebody call Aunt Jemima! Today's National Pancake Day, and to celebrate, more than a dozen local teams will participate in the second annual Northeast Ohio National Pancake Day Relays. Sporting aprons and chef hats, four-member teams — including ad hoc squads from Charter One Bank, St. Vincent Charity Hospital, and Cleveland State University — will wend their way over an obstacle course, while flipping pancakes on a griddle. Frankly, we'd rather be eating them, but there's a purpose to all this tossing: Proceeds benefit Harvest for Hunger. The team that makes its way through the course in the fastest time snags an all-you-can-eat breakfast for its entire organization featuring — yep, you guessed it — pancakes. And it receives the bragworthy "Golden Griddle" trophy. Also on tap for this most joyous of days: IHOP is giving away free pancakes from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Just walk into any area IHOP restaurant and say, "Hit me with a short stack!" (or something to that effect), and you'll be rewarded with some buttermilk flapjacks. Can't beat that!
