Subhumans/Mischief Brew/Kill the Hippies

When: Tue., July 22, 8:30 p.m. 2014
Price: $13
Having formed in 1980, the anarcho-punk British band Subhumans has been around for a long time. They certainly haven’t lost their youthful vigor, and although their last release was in 2007, their most-loved album is the 1983 release, The Day the Country Died. Songs like “Mickey Mouse is Dead” and “Dying World” attack consumerism, children’s loss of innocence and anxiety for the future with fervent drumming, fast guitars and Dick’s charming British accent. “No” and “All Gone Dead” take on classic punk style with statements on British society and religion with choruses that stick in your head for days (but not in a bad way). The angry guitars and shouting backup vocals add to the intensity of these songs as well as the rest of the album. Yep, they’re just as badass now as they were then. Expect to hear these classics and more tonight as they take on the Grog Shop. (Trenholme)
