Sweet Sixteen

When: Thu., Aug. 8, 7:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $5
Samantha Baker (Molly Ringwald) is turning 16 and, as she puts it, “It’s the single worst day of my life” because her parents have forgotten her birthday. And while she has a boyfriend, she fawns over the dreamy Jake Ryan (Michael Schoeffling), a guy her friends think is out of her league. Most teens probably won’t relate to John Hughes’ film — it’s a bit too PG for today’s youth — but it has camp appeal and the soundtrack featuring ’80s acts such as Night Ranger, Oingo Boingo and Wham! holds up pretty well, too. The movie screens tonight at 7:30 at the Palace Theatre as part of Playhouse Square’s Cinema at the Square series. Tickets are $5. (Jeff Niesel)
