Ten Count Fall

With the Critically Acclaimed and the Carsons. Saturday, January 12, at the Grog Shop, Cleveland Heights.

A Grog Shop gig isn't just another night out for a pop-punk band like Ten Count Fall. Since its crown-snagging performance at Peabody's Battle of the Bands in 2005, the group has played at places as varied and strange as pottery shops and Chinese restaurants. It's pretty much anything goes for these four Youngstown natives, who list duct tape as one of their primary instruments (even if they're capable of keeping the band together, apparently they're not so good at maintaining their equipment). Ten Count Fall (whose oldest member tops out at 21) released its first album last year and recently started working on new songs with Goo Goo Dolls producer John Briglevich in Atlanta. The band is currently ranked near the top of MTV2's fan-generated Cleveland Bands on the Rise.

It doesn't break any new ground — the group's roots can be traced to veteran emo rockers like New Found Glory and Taking Back Sunday. But Ten Count Fall's pop-punk punch will definitely have your teenage sister screaming for more. It might also have her singing along to songs about high-school woes like apathy, ambition, and love. Get ready to feel like a bubbly teen again.
