That's Italian!

The city's most Godfather-like neighborhood throws a bash.

Little Italy’s century-old Feast of the Assumption actually kicked off yesterday with a sacred ceremony. But the real fun begins tonight, when area restaurants, churches, and shops fill city blocks with food, games, and music. “The religious aspects of the cultural festival, along with the entertainment, bring it full circle,” says spokeswoman Maureen Brown.

For the next three days, Mayfield Road transforms into Party Central. Tons of cavatelli, cannoli, and ravioli will be dished out, while countless bottles of wine will be uncorked. Ron Fiorentino, Nick Costa, and Avanti bring the Italian-style noise. Plus, fireworks, rides, and hands-on activities will keep kids busy. Best of all, many of the neighborhood’s galleries, stores, and eateries will offer specials during the fest. Says La Bella Vita shop-owner Barbara Strom: “We celebrate the passion for the beauty of Italy.”
