The Againsters

A Few Notes on Darwin (FIMP)

Older guys have much to be pissed about. And the Againsters march into their forties fighting. They're angry at corporations grinding the middle class into fodder and stuff like that. The Akron-based punks have done time in the Nimrods, C.D. Truth, and the Zen-Luv Assassins. Here, they play — as eloquently stated in "ADD Boy" — rock-and-fucking-roll. The credits list every player as lead everything — lead bass, guitar, vocals, and especially drums and keyboards. Pete Sake pounds his keys like he's dropping napalm, setting afire the little air left between Markymoon's rough-and-tumble drums and Dan Halen's and Shoobs' haymaker guitars. But this is vintage rock and roll, so there's room for a slow song too: "(Bring Me the Head of) Radiohead" waltzes around the ashes of your iPod.
