A 1949 adaptation of Ayn Rand’s classic novel, The Fountainhead was actually written by Rand herself. Gary Cooper plays Howard Roark, an architect who attempts to find compromise between his personal beliefs and the tastes of the establishment. A work of bigger philosophical ideas as well as one of individual struggle, the film paints Roark as an “ideal man” who values his own ideas over others’. The film screens today at 6:45 and tomorrow at 4 at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. Tickets are $10, $8 for members. (Shively)
