The Galactic Cowboy Orchestra

When: Tue., Aug. 6, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $2
Progressive Pricing One of the hardest things about starting a band is coming up with a name. There are a lot of directions you can go, but above all else, you want the name to stick with anyone who hears it. The Galactic Cowboy Orchestra definitely has a name that sticks, but their sound is equally as fitting. The quartet sounds like a mix of jazz, progressive and classical elements, and each member knows how to play the hell out of his or her instrument of choice. The band’s cover of “YYZ” by Rush is excellent, and the guys keep it interesting by swapping out some Alex Lifeson’s riffage with a slick violin part. The band plays Cain Park tonight as part of the venue’s special $2 Tuesday. (Jacob DeSmit)
