Death metal as a genre isn’t something everyone can get into. So for a band like Cleveland’s the Gateway Complex, things are going to get a little more, well, complex, if the band expects to have wide appeal. The fivesome’s 2012 debut Overthrown incorporates the average heavy breakdowns, but surrounds them with a chaos of hard beats and quick riffs; singer Josh Dobay’s vocals that could scare away even the hardest-of-hardcore fans. Their music isn’t life changing, but challenging enough to merit a listen. (Nikki Hunt)
