The Journey Begins

When: Thu., Feb. 20 2014
Cleveland’s baroque orchestra Apollo’s Fire opens its new concert program, Sephardic Journey, tonight at Fairlawn Lutheran Church. Conductor/harpsichordist/music director Jeanette Sorrell leads the internationally renowned early music ensemble through a story centered on Jewish people who were cast out of Spain in the 14th century. As these people moved around the Mediterranean, their music absorbed influences from other cultures. The program features songs by Jewish composer Salamone Rossi and Sephardic folk tunes with hints of music from Italy, Turkey and North Africa. Tonight’s show starts at 7:30 p.m., and additional concerts take place over the next four days at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights, the Temple Tifereth in Beachwood and the Rocky River Presbyterian Church. Tickets are $21 to $68. (Eric Gonzalez) 3415 West Market St., Fairlawn,
