The Kids are Alright

When: Fri., Feb. 21 2014
Although Children’s Hour was written in 1934, its subject matter is strikingly modern. While at an all-girls boarding school, an angry, gossipy student begins a malicious rumor that causes irreparable damage to the reputations of the two schoolmistresses. The careers and relationships of the two women begin to crumble and the lies then spread among the rest of the girls. The entire community soon believes the schoolmistresses are lovers. To complicate matters further, a love triangle erupts as one of the women begins to develop feelings for the other. The play’s twists and turns take you on a journey through lies and gossip all the way to the bitter end, resulting in a cautionary tale that resonates with issues we face today. This performance features 16 Beck Center students aged 12 through 17 under special direction of Jonathan Kronenberger. Tickets are $12, and tonight’s performance starts at 7:30. Performances run through March 2. (Trenholme)
