The King and the Mockingbird

When: Fri., June 17 2016
One of the greatest animated movies of all time, The King and the Mockingbird is virtually unknown in America. Director Paul Grimault began filming in 1947 but didn’t complete the film until 1980. Grimualt’s fairytale is set in the highly vertical kingdom of Tachycardia, where King Charles XVI pursues two lovers as they attempt to flee the kingdom with the help of a mockingbird. Their flight takes them below the city, where they encounter the bat-police and other strange creatures of the dark. Tonight at 7, the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque shows the English-language version of the movie. The English-subtitled version of the film shows at 6:30 on Sunday night. Tickets are $9, $7 for members. (Niesel)
