The Man Show

Medina's county fair features trucks and chain saws.

The Medina County Fair is one of the area's largest and longest-running fests. It's been around for 161 years, and it remains among the state's top agricultural fairs. That means there's plenty of livestock, farming equipment, and abnormally huge vegetables on display. But the fair — now in the middle of a weeklong run — isn't all Little House on the Prairie. Tonight, there's a Rough Truck Contest (it's Pimp My Ride-meets-NASCAR) and a DJ spinning Top 40 tunes; tomorrow features a demolition derby and Beatles tribute band Hard Day's Night.

Still, it's the old-fashioned fun that has us returning year after year. There's a certain quaint appeal to the tractor pulls and horseshoe-pitching competitions. Sunday's Chainsaw Contest (in which folks make sawdust from blocks of wood) is a highlight.
