The Murder Junkies

With the Subtones and Human Zambonies. Wednesday, December 20, at the Grog Shop.

Allowing the Murder Junkies' body of work to speak for itself wouldn't earn the band enough gas money to putter across Ohio. Sure, tunes about necrophilia and shooting heroin (the ballad "Waking Up in a Pool of Piss") earn hearty laughs the first time through, but the band's fusion of metal-tinged guitar riffs and gruff, squatter-punk roars are just so generic. Luckily . . . or not, the Junkies come with the reputation of having backed one of the most outrageously repulsive performers of all time: G.G. Allin. Infamously incorporating defecation and self-mutilation into his stage act, Allin once destroyed his teeth with the aid of a microphone. After Allin overdosed on heroin in '93, his older brother and bassist Merle led the Junkies onward for a few years until one too many lineup changes killed the act.

But in honor of the madman's 10 years as a stiff, cold corpse, the Junkies re-formed in 2003 and have carried the torch for foul-mouthed performers ever since. If bashing beer bottles against your face is your idea of a good time, this concert's for you.
