The Orwells/Skaters

When: Tue., Sept. 9, 8:30 p.m. 2014
Price: $15
Having just released their latest album, Disgraceland, in May, the Orwells are making their way across the country. This time, the Chicago band has upped the ante with more straight-up rock and the guys sound a little surer of themselves than in past recordings. Tracks “Let it Burn” and “Who Needs You” explore themes of dysfunctional relationships backed by high-energy, distorted guitar and catchy refrains. “Gotta Get Down” and “The Righteous One” are a little more sedate and carry the same distorted guitar, only with more sophisticated fretwork and echoey vocals you can easily find yourself humming along to. Don’t let it fool you though; they still rock out just the same, even channeling a young Iggy Pop at times. (Trenholme)
