The Other Grandmaster

When: Fri., Nov. 15 2013
Not to be confused with the 2012 Indian neo-noir drama Grandmaster, The Grandmaster is a Hong Kong martial arts drama based on the real life of Grandmaster Ip Man, about whom there seems to be a thousand Netflix films already. This one, though, looks incredibly bad ass, with choreography and cinematography not unlike the masterwork in Crouching Tiger. The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque continues to impress with its diverse lineup this season, and The Grandmaster should be a fun one. It’s basically a new release. Plus, leading actor Tony Leung (total heartthrob) broke his arm while training for the film, so the production took like four years. Isn’t that a cool anecdote to share with your friends? It screens tonight at 7 and tomorrow night at 9:15 and tickets are $9. (Allard)
