The Other Oakland

Tonight, the struggling Vikings of CSU take on the Golden Grizzlies of Oakland University in a Horizon League match that should finally allow the Vikings to be picked on by somebody roughly their own size. The Vikes have been suffering against big conference opponents, but Oakland, at 6-10 at press time, should be bad enough to make things interesting. Oakland is in Rochester, Mi., by the way, a stone’s throw from the Pistons’ Palace at Auburn Hills — not Oakland, Calif. Tonight’s tickets can be had for as little as $10, though scalpers might be giving them away for a cup of coffee out at the Wolstein Center. Tipoff’s at 7:30. (Sam Allard)
