The Pietasters/First Offense/Official Seals

When: Thu., March 14, 8 p.m. 2013

The Pietasters have no right to be on the road. The D.C.-based old school ska/soul band doesn’t have a new album out and the ska revival that hit so hard in the ’90s has dissipated. Their last studio album, All Day, came out over five years ago. The “news” section on its website hasn’t been updated in some time. The band hasn’t been completely inactive, though. Last summer, it played the Dirty South Fest in Chapel Hill alongside punk stalwarts like The Cro-Mags and The Queers. And in 2010, it joined a good group of bands that paid homage to the D.C.’s 9:30 Club, which was celebrating its 30th anniversary. All Day is a solid effort, too, as it features the kind of brisk horn arrangements and soulful vocals that seem to be popular again thanks to groups such as Fitz and the Tantrums. Maybe the band does deserve to be on the road. (Jeff Niesel)
