The Rap on Rap

When: Tue., Sept. 9 2014
School is back in session with this latest installment of Belt University, the liberal-arts focused speaker series at the Happy Dog. This month, join CWRU professor Michael Clune (the English prof who penned what was considered a virtuosic memoir about heroin) as he discusses the enduring popularity of rap music. “The rap formula,” write event organizers, “continues to thrive and to spread. We’ll take a closer look at the dynamics of this form, exploring tracks by Notorious BIG, Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane and others. We’ll see how rap fuses images of blackness, invisibility and anti-sociality to create a phantasmatic new interpretation of money.” Sounds like the perfect content to go with a Molson draft and Fruit Loops dog. The talk starts at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free. (Allard)
