The Search for Bigfoot

Marc DeWerth has been tracking the illusive Bigfoot for more than a decade. As head of the Ohio Bigfoot Organization, the investigator says he maintains a healthy skepticism about many of the reports he’s investigated, including several from Portage County. (As Scene reported way back in 2007, Portage County is a comparative hotspot for Bigfoot activity, with more than 13 documented encounters recorded to date.) On the other hand, DeWerth’s own 1997 encounter was hard to refute, and helps explain why the researcher travels the countryside lecturing on Bigfoot’s activities. Tonight at 8, DeWerth is bringing his tales to Streetsboro for a free, family friendly presentation. (Park staffers are expecting a big turnout; would-be attendees are advised to bring their own chairs or blankets.) Among other topics, DeWerth will demonstrate howls and wood knocks that seem to attract ol’ Sasquatch — just in case you want to try bagging one of your own during the night hike that follows. But don’t worry: It’s all in the name of science. “I would hear people tell me stories about their encounters, but I would still have a shadow of a doubt,” says DeWerth. “After having a close encounter of my own, it really changed my attitude … they say seeing is believing.” Report to the pavilion at Streetsboro’s city park, and see if DeWerth can make a believer out of you. The park is at 8980 Kirby Lane in Streetsboro.
