The Slackers/The Pinstripes

When: Sat., April 6, 7 p.m. 2013

The Slackers have been around long enough to see ska revivals come and go. The band, which started way back in 1991, ultimately signed to Hellcat Records and benefited from the fact the label was friendly with the folks who pick the bands to play the Warped Tour. By playing the skate-surf-punk extravaganza, The Slackers got some much-needed exposure and really connected with the punk rock set. Their most recent studio album, 2011’s The Radio, features covers of songs like The Misfits’ “Attitude,” which they predictably turn into an old school reggae tune, complete with blaring horns. To their credit, they keep the snotty vocals intact and the song actually works quite well as a reggae number. Old school reggae bands are dying off faster than print publications, so it’s good to see that these guys are still going at it. (Jeff Niesel)
