The Waiting Room

When: Wed., March 13, 6:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $10
The San Francisco Chronicle raves about Peter Nicks’s The Waiting Room, a movie that made the shortlist for the Best Documentary category for this year’s Oscars. Nicks set out to capture what happens in one 24-hour period at the emergency room at Highland Hospital in Oakland, Calif. One Washington Post critic even picked it as one of her top three films of the year. Nicks set up interview booths in the hospital so that doctors, nurses and patients could all talk about what they were going through as they were trying to either receive or administer treatment. Given that so many of the patients were insured, the film provides some insight into the growing debate about making health insurance mandatory. Nicks will be on hand for this screening, which takes place at 6:30 p.m. at the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Gartner Auditorium, and will take questions after the film shows. Tickets are $10.
