The week's best releases from the pop-culture universe.

DVD -- ³The Simpsons,² The Complete Eighth Season: Tons of deleted scenes highlight this four-disc set of all 25 episodes from the terrific 1997-98 season. It includes such beloved episodes as "The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show" (featuring Homer as an "extreme" cartoon dog) and "Homer's Phobia," in which Homer worries about guest star John Waters' "gay" rubbing off on him. It gives new meaning to the term "Flaming Homer."

TV -- Big '80s Weekend: Encore celebrates Labor Day weekend (starting at 8 p.m. Friday and running through Monday night) with movies, including Weekend at Bernie's, Porky's, and Die Hard. Live performances by the Go-Go's Jane Wiedlin, the Motels' Martha Davis, and Tommy Tutone are sprinkled throughout, as are interviews with Devo, Toto, and others. Best of all, it's hosted by Revenge of the Nerds' Booger, who's been known to pick some winners.

DVD -- Ding Dong/Merry Maids of the Gay Way: If The Notorious Bettie Page put you in the mood for some old-school stripping, this pair of burlesque movies from the '50s is sure to satisfy. There's no Page here, but gals like Zabouda and Taffy Terrell show you their pasties-covered ta-tas. A bunch of bonus shorts include such gems as Naughty New York and Strip Strip Hooray. With names like that, they've got to be good.

BOOK -- Disaster Movies: No, this isn't a survey of Ben Affleck films. It's a look at cinematic earthquakes, sinking ships, and burning towers, along with occasional nods to killer bees, alien invasions, and nuclear holocausts. Glenn Kay and Michael Rose's book is a thorough chronicle of Mother Nature's star turns on the silver screen and includes posters for such self-explanatory flicks as Avalanche, Tidal Wave, and Rollercoaster.

TV -- 101 Guiltiest Guilty Pleasures: This week, E! wraps up its countdown of things we're ashamed to admit we love. Pop culture icons like Britney Spears, Showgirls, and a slew of Patrick Swayze movies all make the list. But the show (airing at 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday) also makes room for infomercials and internet porn. Guilty as charged.

CD -- The Ultimate Luther Vandross: Vandross' greatest achievement was injecting love songs with unsurpassed passion, grit, and honesty. This 18-track compilation features a pair of unreleased tracks, but it's the hits (like the stellar "A House Is Not a Home," which Kanye sampled on "Slow Jamz") that endure. This is baby-making music at its finest.

COURTESY FLUSH, PLEASE -- No Limit: Greatest Hits: Hip-hop has gotten lazy over the past decade, and we totally blame the money-hungry Master P. This two-disc overview of his record company features cuts by siblings Silkk the Shocker and C-Murder, as well as rhymes by a few lumbering rappers to whom he isn't related. Someone should have limited his output.
