Three Cheers for the Queers!

The city's gay population celebrates its fabulousness.

L.A.-based comedian Jason Stuart skewers ex-boyfriends, pop culture, and politicos at today’s Cruising With Pride bash, the city’s 19th-annual homo fest. The gay comic will specifically aim jabs at the Bush administration and its inability to capture Osama bin Laden. “He’s six-foot-three, attached to a dialysis machine, and nobody can find him,” he says. “Unbelievable! You know he’s stuck under a rug somewhere, looking in a mirror, and wondering what turban to wear for his next video.”

Before his 7 p.m. show at Voinovich Park, Stuart will take part in the noon parade -- where more than 4,000 gay people are expected to march to North Coast Harbor’s pride rally. At 1 p.m., the gates open to a nautically themed celebration, featuring food and beer, a casino, and a kids’ pavilion. Performances by gay-friendly artists like pop duo Nemesis Rising, folkie Doria Roberts, and bluesman Eric Himan will take place on four different stages. Stuart is used to the setting: He’s a comedy staple at dozens of gay-pride fests across the country. When he’s not onstage, he stars in gay indie films like Coffee Date, which screened at the Cleveland International Film Festival this year. In his act, Stuart discusses news-making celebrity feuds -- like last month’s showdown on The View between fellow queer comic Rosie O’Donnell and reality-show contestant Elisabeth Hasselbeck. “I think it’s really sad that this little girl from Survivor thinks she can walk all over Rosie,” says Stuart. “I say, Survive this!”
