Tinko/Water Liars

When: Sun., April 14, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $5
In the wake of The Black Keys’ success, the indie rock duos just keep a-coming. The latest is Water Liars. These guys have actually been around a couple of years so they’re not exactly the new kids on the block. Singer Justin Kinkel-Schuster even fronted the band Theodore before turning his talents to Water Liars. Their 2012 debut Phantom Limb — it’s more stoner rock than blues garage — got them a bit of acclaim from the usual outlets (NPR, Alternative Press). Their latest, Wyoming, is a bit easier on the ears and emphasizes the alt-country side of their sound as opening tune “Sucker” sounds a bit like Wilco and the rest of the tunes — which are really quite terrific — follow suit.
