If you must categorize Lucero, go ahead and call it an alt-country band. But the Memphis quartet rocks and stomps harder than any of its twang-strumming peers. It has as much in common with the Replacements as it does Son Volt. Its first EP, 2000's hard-to-find The Attic Tapes, was reissued this week with five bonus tracks. It's seething, searing stuff, swerving just this side of rustic shit-kickers to end up in Stonesy riff-rock territory — an area it's conquered over the past six years.
