Vattnet Viskar brings their epic doom-metal to Now That’s Class tonight. Formed in 2010 and hailing from New Hampshire, Vattnet Viskar (the name means “the water is whispering” in Swedish) goes for a particularly dark sound. The songs on their new album Sky Swallower range from long and drawn out heaviness layered with deep, gutteral vocals (“Mythos” and “Apex”) to unexpectedly lovely instrumental breakdowns (“Breath of the Almighty” and “Fog of Apathy”). These breakdowns are fairly simplistic in nature, consisting of just guitar plucks, but they provide a nice contrast to the heavy pounding that comes later. Of course, a band of this genre doesn’t make songs without amazingly long intros, and they’re indeed epic. (Liz Trenholme)
